Embeddings, retrieval, and responsible evaluation

Embeddings map text into numeric vectors so related meanings can be compared. Retrieval systems can use these vectors to find relevant passages, and RAG can supply those passages to a generator as context. Retrieval does not update model weights and does not eliminate hallucinations. Evaluate classification with measures such as precision, recall, and F1, and evaluate generation for factual accuracy, relevance, bias, and task usefulness, including human review where appropriate.
