3. What is Ollama?

Ollama is a local model runtime and management tool. It can download supported models, run generation, and expose HTTP endpoints such as /api/generate and /api/chat. It is not a replacement for a training framework.

A Modelfile can describe a compatible model, its template, and runtime parameters. Importing model weights does not retrain them. Model capabilities differ: image analysis requires a vision-capable model, not simply attaching a picture to a text model.

Keep the runtime private or behind an authenticated application gateway; do not expose an unrestricted inference endpoint.
